Pilates for the Imagination?

From my armchair I am staring at the Pilates DVD my husband bought me to help me with my back pain. I think I looked at it once over the weekend, and it's still in the player waiting for my finger to press play. Likewise I have a canvas in my studio waiting to be released from what has been it's plastic prison for the last year. With the DVD it's a simple of case of laziness. With the canvas it's a case of indecision. The dilemma is simply 'do I keep it local and paint Cappa Beach again?' Or do I paint what the galleries of Clare will expect - paintings of Clare on a wider scale? Up to now I have painted Cappa, where I live, four times - not counting the Pilot Boat at Cappa pier.

If you're an artist reading this post - you will probably have asked yourself the question: how many more times can I paint the same thing? It's a fair question, as is: do you paint what YOU want, what is in your heart and soul? Or do you paint for the market? If you are an artist whose subject matter has not changed in years, do you still feel passion for every painting and what do you do if your passion runs a little...thin? It won't tell me what I have to put on this huge canvas - for that I will have to treat the dilemma as a form of Pilates for my imagination, but where others are on their artistic journey never ceases to intrigue and educate me. Bearing in mind that a challenge always strengthens us, I will now peel myself out of this armchair and put on that DVD...ciao for now.

I would be interested to hear your say on this 100th post. Don't forget that your comments are always appreciated so drop me a line in passing even if it's just to say hello.

Nature Quest Gallery

Today was a wet old day here in West Clare and one which saw me running about town to get work into the Nature Quest Gallery (above). Do click on this photo and you'll be able to see some wonderful celtic work and garments made from felt. We're very creative here in West Clare, you know.

I promised a picture of them on the wall, so here they are. The opportunity to put them into the gallery arose unexpectedly and I am happy they are on view to the public at last. Now we hope for good (or bad weather) and lots of feet walking into the gallery.

Until then here is a peek at the fourth study, which as you can see is very much a work in progress. I decided to start this one on a black ground for a change. I'll keep you up to date on how this one goes.

Brushstrokes

Greetings all and apologies for not posting up anything lately. What with relatives over and summer holidays and work it's been a little short of manic around here, with little focus on the more important things in life: painting! Things are settling down again and I am slowly getting back into things. I am currently working on my fourth (and probably final) stone study. I've been at this too long now and want to tie up loose ends so that I can start on a big canvas like the one seen here that I painted two years ago and featured with yours truely. I also have a little work going on view at a local gallery here in town, thanks to one of our local artists here in West Clare who has taken over the 'Nature Quest Gallery'. You can view her work here

As always your comments are all welcome, so post away! It's always a joy to hear from you! Until then, Ciao for now!
